Hello bbheigle,

Thanks for showing us this great haul of bottles. The psychedelic psyk Lyons Powder is my fave. I love the sick ones & want to see more photos, please., in natural light, if you can do it. I'm also fond of that nice semi cabin or schoolhouse ink.

Tabasco sauce dates from 1868.

I hope you will carefully dig this dump to the walls. Continued success!

Hi Surf!! Thanks so much for this information!!! That's why I took a individual photo of the Lyons Powder bottle. I read a little history on it but nothing like what you put up! I printed it out :) Thank you so much!!

Thanks everyone!!!!! I'm trying to get back out there. I have small children so I've been busy! My husband and I might go back this weekend. Here are the bottles I found the other day. This was while we were under attack by those blood suckers!!! Only stayed 15 mins :(

Awesome farm dump site. Those can be a real blast. Trench warfare now. Start on one end and dig all of that up. You found some good looking glass, could be a real banner find in there somewhere. Cant wait to see more. Congrats, jgas

Sorry it took so long to post photos. I've been busy with the kids! I know the bottles needs to be cleaned but I have so many and not enough time! I have taken photos of the ones I have questions about and the ones that are "worth while". I have many more small medicine bottles that I didn't drag out for the photo shoot. Are any of these from the 1860's or prior? Most are late 1800's I know. I have quite a few bottles with the makers mark "C" but I can't seem to find much info on it. Does anyone know anything about that last bottle? Im shocked its not broke bc its super thin!! Thanks in advance!!!!!!!! Let me know if y'all need close ups on a specific bottle. I have many more but I will put them up on here on a rainy day!

I have researched the best i could on most of these on the antique bottle websites but some im unable to solve. Im not a bottle person so if y'all have any info on these I would LOVE to hear it!

that last bottle is definitely civil war era, and the very dark, almost black ale bottle is from around that time as well. the j. hostetters is a good one, from the 1870s. itt would probably get $35-$40 on ebay
well done and I am jealous!

Hello bbheigle,

This spot continues to produce great glass. Thank you for updating with these new finds. My favorites of this lot are the Pepper Sauce sisters. Please do take more photos of those and any others, like the barrel mustard and that super Reed's Tonic. Some artistry in mould cutting on that one.

That last one and another sure appear to be hinge moulded.

snapcasebase.jpg
"...These symmetrical true two-piece molds could be either hinged on the side - as illustrated above (actual side hinged mold image available at CLICK HERE) - or hinged on the bottom so that the mold opened like a waffle iron (Toulouse 1969b; Boow 1991; Russell 1998). Although the location of the hinges (bottom or side) left no trace on the bottles themselves, side hinged two-piece molds (like illustrated above right) could only produce bottles without any (or very little) molded indentation to the base, i.e., with a flat base like the bottle base pictured to the right. Otherwise the mold would not open properly once a bottle was blown in it. (It should be noted that many true two-piece molded bottles with pontil scars - like the "spice" bottle to the above left - have slightly indented bases which are often the result of the pontil rod pushing the flat - still plastic - base inwards to help the bottle stand upright more easily with the protruding pontil scar and not necessarily due to being molded that way.) True two-piece molds with molded indented bases (i.e., the indentation is obviously molded not pushed in by the pontil rod) had to have been base hinged since the mold would not open properly with side hinges. One disadvantage of this general mold conformation was that the location of the base mold seam often contributed to bottle instability if the mold seam protruded much, which was a frequent occurrence with the poor mold surface meshing of early to mid-19th century molds..." Bottle Bases Page

I'd be considering snorkeling that spot about now...

Hahaha!!!!! Glad to hear from you surf!!!! Trust me I'm tempted ;) I will gladly post photos of those bottles. Thank you so much for the information! Now that you educated me on the 2 piece molds, I have several small medicine bottles with the same mold. I will take photos of those as well since they were absent in the photos I posted today. Thanks again surf!!!!

Hope you don't mind me asking another question?! What was that large aqua bottle used for in the 1st photo?

Here ya go surf :) I have another Cathedral Sauce bottle but its broken off at the neck :( The last bottle is a Tabasco Pepper Sauce bottle. Is this bottle late 1800's? There are 2 photos (that are out of order) of the mountain of broken pieces i dug out of the same hole. Thanks for the awesome info!!!

Some of these photos are out of order. Sorry about that!

What was that large aqua bottle used for in the 1st photo?

Hey bbheigle,

That first one looks like a large food, perhaps a salt jar. Is there anything embossed on the base?

That Tabasco does look late 19th Century. I always associate that skirt like sweep of the neck portion meeting the body of the bottle with the late Eighties or Nineties. I can't quite make out all the embossing on the base of the Tabasco...

Thanks surf! On the large aqua, there is a "O" on the very edge of the base. Look at the top of the base in the photo. I tried to take a better photo of the Tabasco. It says, "Tabasco Pepper Sauce" on the base. Thank you
