I've become really interested lately in glass with labels still remaining. I currently only have three paper labeled bottles. Two I picked up recently. One is a sewing machine oil from Standard Oil Company. It says Cleveland, and I know that the company moved its headquarters from Cleveland to NY in 1885. I'm guessing it's from before then, but it could be from a plant in Cleveland I guess. I also got a Coke syrup jug, which from the date code I think is 1940. Thought you guys would get a kick out of the ingredients. I'd love to see everyone's labeled bottles. Thanks guys.

That standard oil bottle is awesome. I also had no idea that there was such a thing as cola nuts.

Here's one I like:
sarsaparillaredFrench.jpg
Sarsaparilla was used as a treatment for some serious diseases, including syphilis. Here is the translation of the label from a French sarsaparilla medicine,
DR. GUSTIN'S RED SARSAPARILLA:
The best purifier of the blood
Doctor Gustin's Red Sarsaparilla
Contains an essence, concentrated against all defects of the blood, gout, rheumatisms, afflictions of the skin, hardening of the arteries, and all the manifestations of arthritis.
Method of use: 2 to 3 spoonsful with soup per day.
2.50 francs per bottle
Principal distributor:
Commercial Pharmacy of France
25 & 27 Drouot Street, Paris

If it cured symptoms of arthritis, gout, and rheumatism, it may have had a touch of an opiate like laudanum.

Thanks, I didn't know either. I sure would've loved to taste it back then, I'm sure it was better than the artificial stuff of today.

That's a great one Harry, do you know how it was that the label survived?
