Still my nicest bottle find, late 1700's free blown with the initials of 3 different sailors on it. Bottles were a precious commodity on a ship in the 18th and 19th century. Each sailor was issued his rum ration into one of these and these bottles were handed down from sailor to sailor. I found it at a depth of 55 ft in an area we affectionately call the "Black Glass Hole" about 20 years ago. :skullflag:

I'd say my Avatar is "one" of the best ones I've found. Although there were several marked strap side flasks and the pontil pepper sauce from C.T. Hughes & co. that I posted on the pepper sauce thread that was killer too. Very hard to pick just one. Hopefully I will change my Avatar this coming season with a better find! jgas

Nice ones Carl. Have you talked to Pikes Peak Charlie lately? Haven't heard from him in quite some time
We've played phone tag, I need to call him soon and gripe about the lack of good sites. Hopefully this weekend we can post something decent and recent. Carl

My old favorite, dug it over fifty years ago. Kickapoo Indian oil was found last year, isn't really too rare, but ya gotta love the title. Most of the few better bottles I have dug are out in the garage and it's 5 degrees out there and howling wind so I'm not going there.

there is something about stoneware, maybe it just seems so primitive, a real connection to the past for me.

nah, yea... the AP Smith. Wish I could claim it as "my" find... it was a gift from my long time hunting buddy. Sweet bottle that is much sought after... or so I hear.
