Hudson River Estate Finds: A VERY old top

Hey guys, had the chance this past week to very briefly scope out an old estate on the Hudson about a two hour drive from NYC. I eventually found a small dump in a sort of creek ditch. It was a tough dig because all I had was a trowel and a garden tool and it was also in a muddy creek, but I found a nice purpley milk bottle on the surface from a town not too far away, a couple blown Curtis bros ketchup bottles (not worth showing) and then the real surprise: as I went deeper with my little trowel I hit somewhat of an ashy layer and a very old top came out. Looks to be a late 1700s-early 1800s ale bottle top, what do you guys think? Not sure I'll be able to get back there anytime soon, maybe next year. But needless to say I'll bring a proper shovel!!!

You should proudly display this killer piece of glass.

I am thinking... English... 1700's... but I am no bottle expert.
Maybe one will chime in on this.

If there are banners given for "pieces" of glass... then this would be one.

You have no idea how badly I want to go back now, but it'll probably be the fall before I get the chance. I'll certainly post about what I get when I do go back.

I agree with Smokeythecat . . . the neck dates to 1770 - 1790. It's unlikely to be a "mallet" which is defined as a bottle with a base diameter greater than the height to the start of the shoulder (This is commonly misunderstood.) Judging from the diameter at the shoulder, I think is more likely to be a (tall) cylinder wine bottle.

Oh wow,that is a nicccceee bottle it has that beautiful color to it that indicates super old.
