I suppose I could have posted these snippets in one of the older DURAGLAS threads that have been revisited, but decided to start this new thread instead so as to put a new perspective on it. DURAGLAS was introduced in 1940 by the Owens-Illinois Company and was a glass hardening element that was revolutionary at the time. And because of the hardening factor, it also allowed glass bottles to be lighter. The following newspaper snippets are the earliest references for DURAGLAS that I'm aware of ...

you are right . the owens date code apers on most of the bottles , at this time . at the right of the logo there is a two digit date code and all of the bottles I have found are not any earlier then the 1940s .
