This is awesome, Deep seeker!
Yes, bottles get cleaned. I suppose there are various ways. What works best for me is to use Stain Away Plus. It’s a denture cleaner. Stubborn stains take a couple soakings. I also delicately use round wire brushes of various sizes to help with the crusty stuff. I just read that after you get the bottle cleaned, to coat it with baby oil. I haven’t tried that yet.

Question:

New to bottle hunting.....

Do bottle hunters clean their finds?

For many treasures, cleaning is bad juju!!!

I've used dried rice. Put about an inch in a pint sized bottle , add water till around half full and shake shake shake a while.
Crushed ice could be used but I don't like the rapid temp change.
Which reminds me....Never introduce dry untempered glass to hot water.
Wet it with cool or room temp water first.

Tis a new day, still kinda cool up this holler temperature wise. I'm itching to do something this morning - probably going up those woods again. I've already found 3 separate accessibile dumps here, but figuring there will be more. For a newbie bottle digger I was really very blessed here with the history. I'm thinking there's a very very old one I haven't found yet.

I'm going to leave that old outhouse site alone for now. Since I put the inside toilet in around 1982, there'd be nothing really collectible there anyway.

I've a lot of shelving up here in my room. And books everywhere. They'd be better replaced with new finds :) I'd take a picture, but my mess would be embarrassing.

One thing I'm noting, I find quite a few jars labeled as "Duraglas". I'll learn more as I go, still a newbie.

DeepseekerADS will find many experts in this field or branch of our Forum,
and Researching about the glass makers, maybe even going to flea markets,
antique stores, and club meetings, to learn even more, making this searching, more meaningful....

Just went up into the woods to the trash pile, found a Resinol jar, and a test tube. What the heck we doing with a test tube up here? Interesting :)

IMG_1613.JPG

Resinol works by breaking down rough, scaly, or hardened skin. This medicine also disinfects the skin to help fight infection.

Resinol (for the skin) is used to treat pain and itching caused by minor cuts and scrapes, burns, insect bites, poison ivy, sunburn, or other skin irritations. This medicine topical is also used to treat acne, eczema, psoriasis, seborrhea, corns, calluses, warts, and other skin disorders.

I did find more today. First item = I'm not sure this is a bottle at all, not really sure what it is, except it's glass.

My ancestors were firm believers in castor oil - got my share of it.....

Would that 1st one be a perfume bottle? I don’t know bottles much myself. I’m just guessing.

Too small of an opening, to be an ink bottle. Yeah, perfume, with fancy shape.

It's not raining right now, but certainly a grey day.

It's now 20 days since I was infected with glass & bottle fever, and it's also 20 pieces on my shelves. I'm a slob, so just overlook the mess.

That’s cool. A bottle a day average. Looks good. I like the big brown one next to the charger plug. What does it say?

Non booze bottles were marked such too during prohibition. (Thus the popular picture of mason jars in the shine industry.)
A restaurant manager in the seventies was breaking some wine bottles into in a dumpster , insisting it kept them from being re-used. Which , breaking them did prevent...
