I found this in an old park, this evening, and am not sure its a button, because of the open back. It’s about the size of a penny, and under the loupe you can see traces of gilt. Thanks for looking.

Yes it likely is a button that someone manufactured into its current state. That particular design came shortly after the civil war and has been around for a long time. Some buttons with that marking are authentic to the original time period but most aren’t. Hard to tell with yours. Great find!!
