[Iron Patch]

I bought that xp gold max,and man that is a hot machine for iron infested areas..It has such a fast response,it will pick those small targets out of the iron.I found some spanish reals in the middle of a iron patch with it.. I got sick of my minelab at the spot..

A lot has to do with how you swing in iron with the Minelabs, real short sweeps, like pinpointing. This Fall a friend of mine should know his F-75 well enough to test a few targets in iron. I think fast response has a negative side to it because the detector doesn't have time to hit the deep stuff before it's on to the next target. That's why eventhough the Explorer recovery is slower I can hear targets some faster detectors I've tested against can't. All that being said, it doesn't really matter because we hunt farm fields and what you miss you can get the next time.

Thats a good point,sometimes we hunt areas that we have a day or two to hunt, and then the construction begins.They pave the road back over and we dont get a chance for next 20 yrs. or so..Thanks for the setting help on the minelab

Always happy to help but what works for me might not be the best for someone else. But it never hurts to try!

I would like to help contribute to the Button Show with some of the Union Civil War buttons I dug out of one fire pit in Upstate New York. In the course of two days I dug 59 uniform buttons out of this pit, and in subsequent visits dug a final total of 72 uniform buttons, and I am not sure that I am done.

Included in the total were three piece Staff Officer buttons of various manufacture, one and two piece Artillery Officer buttons, and Zuave or Ball buttons. I have both coat and cuff sizes.

The initial two day dig was the best two days I have ever had treasure hunting. It was literally like digging up a cache of rare coins. Well here are some of the pictures I took....

I agree with BuckleBoy... I read the info on the provided link {same link that has my G.W. button} and not much is said as to how many survive. For sure a significant button.

Thanks Guys and I wish that was the case but unfortunately it is not. That patricular button is only significant because of the context of the find. (with GW buttons) The site also says... "David F. Johnson and a Col. Campbell declared they were the first Continental Navy buttons found to date." But that is incorrect, these are British Royal Navy buttons. I still like it but no GW connection on mine, just an early Navy.

If you look at the hammer price listed (which I haven't for a while) I don't believe that button got much more than maybe $400. That right there tells the story because that's about the range of what my button would probably bring if non dug. Obviously the serious guys at auction had very little interest in it.

PS... Did you know at that sale it was coin collectors who smoked the button guys for the high bids and bought all the best stuff.
