I have been trying to find information about a cache that was left behind by Ezekiel Harper from St. George, WV. Ezekiel was murdered in the 1890's. He was a confederate soldier during the war and had been a gold prospector in California several times. He is said to have left a chest full of gold on his property somewhere the problem is he had 1000's of acres. In the early 1900's The CCC boys did some work on what would have been his property and took out a tunnel that led from his house to a nearby creek, I just wonder if the loot wasn't in the tunnel or buried around it. If anyone has any information it would be great. I have the book the history of Tucker County by Floyd Fansler it talks about the Harper family a good bit.
P.S. There was a group of people last year that claimed to be Ezekiel's family from Texas that paid to have his body exhumed. While they were digging my brother in law saw them so he stopped to see what was going on,they told him and while they were standing there with the body out and placed in a new coffin one o f the" family members" said they wished they had a metal detector. Well my brother in law said he had one if they would wait a few minutes he would go home and get it. They didn't find anything but it makes you wonder?
