Welcome to the CA section, as slow as it is! Unfortunately, I'm about 150 miles road-wise (110 crow-flies) south of you! However, I do like hitting up the Lucerne dry lake bed for meteorite hunting, so sometimes I'm prone to go north!

Most people don't even know where Ridgecrest is lol. I've met people who moved here from Los Angeles and they said that their friends there think they left the state. There are a lot of places to hunt around here though.

I wouldn't have known where Ridgecrest was about a month ago, honestly! I only came across it a few weeks back looking for spots to go mining.

a guy from Ridgecrest got a $5 gold (turn-of-century-ish date) at one of the RR camps leading in or out of Ridgecrest. You know how in the process of building the RR's, they could progress just a little bit per day, and took weeks to accomplish a few miles or whatever. So in the process there'd be little tent cities the RR workers would have, every 15 miles or so. Those would last a month or so, before packing up the tents and moving down the line to the next spot. He researched and hunted all these little short-lived spots, and got some barbers and seateds and the gold coin. But since they were short-lived spots, the target volume was rather ... uh ... light :)

Other than that, he griped that the entire history of Ridgecrest (ages of homes, etc...) was rather new, when compared to the rest of CA. He had to travel to outlying areas to find history older than the turn-of-century-ish.

I've done some research and found some really interesting places in the area. One story I found and was able to find evidence on is about a group of miners from the gold rush era who got ambushed and lost all of their gold and coins. I was able to locate the area where it's believed that the gold and coins were buried.

Born and raised is our lovely little town lol. Quite a few places to prospect out in the El Pasos, there are also a few of clubs that have active claims in our area (AMRA, GPAA and Prospectors Club of Southern California).

Good I was beginning to think I was the only one here. I've seen a few guys out detecting but they didn't seem very friendly so I decided not to approach them. If you don't already have a detecting partner maybe we could get together sometime. I don't know anyone here that I can detect with but I do have a prospecting buddy that I met when I first got here. He is taking me to his spot. He has all the equipment we need to do some serious prospecting.

There are a few of us out here lol. I'd be happy to meet up to do some dirt fishing, got a couple of machines (MTX and GB2). Also have a dry washer and a couple of sluice boxes. We'll have to set something up after the first of the year ;)

Sounds good to me. I just found out one of our fellow locals here just found a cache of coins. I heard the cache had at least 4 gold coins in it.

I spent a day in Trona a while back exploring the area for places to detect. That place is a mess. I don't see why anyone would want to live there.

Does anyone around here happen to have a decent camera? I am trying to put together a few guys to go out on hunts and film it for a youtube series.
