Civil war pistol bullet?

Just found this at a spot I find mineballs and such because it was once a union encampment. Is it a pistol bullet?

Yes. To get an accurate ID you should provide accurate measurements. You can get a set of digital calipers at most auto parts stores for around $20.00. They are an invaluable tool in our hobby. This is the one I bought: Performance Tool W80152 - Caliper | O'Reilly Auto Parts
If you don't mind my asking, what part of Maryland are you in? I was born and raised in Hagerstown.

yes indeed -- blackpower type pistol bullet common calibers were 32 , 36 and 44

My father has a few calipers. I'll have to see where they are and then I'll post a picture with the measurements.

I live in howard county Maryland, near a union encampment that was guarding the Thomas viaduct from the confederates

Smith and Wesson designed the 32 rimfire in 1860 and it was produced by different manufacturers until 1941. For a better ID you might try posting it in the "What Is It" forum. Give a length as well for correct ID. Good luck with it and good providence on your next hunt.
