what is this fuse?

i found this a while ago and threw it on the porch with my other junk.....looking at it today i picked this up and wondered if it was a fuse....i have been told it is.....i would like to know more information about it........it was found on my land in northern virginia....

there are a lot of people who know more than I do. but it looks like a fuse holder for an artillary shell. the fuse was cut to length depending on the time delay you wanted. the fuse was incerted into holder and screwed into the shell nose. when fired it ignited and hopefully burned the desired time and set off the shells explosive charge. thus we have bombs bursting in air to cause maximum damage to troops below. someone will know which shell and size if you give them time.

I believe it to be a Hotchkiss time fuse. #34 in the link attached. It is a nice find congrats!
I found a Schenkl last year and thought it was a junk piece of brass. The 30 year veterans I was hunting with couldn't believe it since they had never found one. Beginners luck I guess!
