Hello all,

Hit the jackpot at a family friend's farm a few miles north of Antietam Battlefield in Maryland. Pulled only a fraction of the bullets that are in the ground out. After plotting all of our finds on a map, it seems like there might have been a little undocumented skirmish. These 50 rounds were all pulled from a 30ft by 30 ft area, with a ton more hits to dig up. Found multiple rounds in the same hole, including many holes with dropped rounds and fired rounds that impacted the earth together. It was a fun dig!

Nice finds. Places like that are getting harder to find. We have a place near a Union camp that is similar. It's on the side of a hill and we think they used the area for target practice. We have found hundreds of bullets in a very small area. I have gotten as many as four in one hole. Just a thought.

Welcome to t-net and thanks for posting.

Are some of those bullets modern? The one looks like a shotgun slug.

Wow. What a haul. Great job rescuing those relics. What is the piece with the star on it. I have a brass cartridge with that symbol and don't understand mine.

Unfortunately most if not all of those bullets are 20th century. Might be some good stuff there though being that close to Antietam, keep looking!

Yea like previously posted most if not all are modern but still relatively old. Some may be as old as 100 years. The big one with star is a slug. Keep looking. It's out there. Don't get discouraged I too have found myself thinking I found the honey hole or the campsite and only once I got home and cleaning them up realized the rifling marks and modern day bullets.

Those older post war bullets tell a story of their own, and still make a fascinating display.

Keep hitting that area, and who knows what may be awaiting your returns.
