Stories of Lost CW Payrolls?

Has anyone ever come across a case where a lost CW Payroll was found? Seems to me that during the war both armies paid their soldiers in script or paper money. I've read so many cases of supposed lost payrolls that it seems that most, if not all, of these stories are nothing more than myths or legends made up so as to have a an interesting story to tell.

Ive come across an occasional report about supply trains being hit some containing money, gold, etc. Never really thought to look into it, though. Good idea if you are investigating it.
