I found this today. I am having conflicting info given on several sites. Some Say it is a General Service Button from Civil War. Others say from the Indian Wars. Can anyone say for sure? The melted lead was found just a few yards from the button both at 4-6 inches deep. It was found in an area where there was Civil War activity but I know nothing about the indian wars or the areas it occurred. Thanks

The shape of the eagle and the raised shield leads me to believe it is post war 1875-1902. I can't read all of the backmark except for "Horstmann" That would probably put it closer to the 1875 date. You might post this in the What is it forum for more exposure.

Thanks Fyrffytr1, I have researched some and I agree it is an Indian Wars. I will go ahead and post it in the What Is It thread and see if I can get more info. Thanks

Here it is after I cleaned it with a toothpick and a little fingernail power.
