Method I used to clean my 2 cent piece

First I want to say that this method could completely destroy your coin so use at your own risk. Im pretty good at looking at a coin and telling the best method for cleaning so if you are not maybe you should try a different method. Also I don't recommend using this method on a valuable coin. Ok here goes, First I wash the coin in dish soap to remove any oils or what ever else could be on the coin. Next I soak in lemon juice and check on progress every so often. When lemon juice turns green I empty and refill with fresh lemon juice, Ya may have to soak for hours. If there's real stubborn corrosion that wont come off from soaking I use a real fine steel wool to help remove. If the corrosion is that hard to get off chances are there's gonna be pitting in the coin. After im happy with the condition of the coin from soaking in the lemon juice I rub backing soda on the coin with water a few times to neutralize the acid from the lemon juice, After that the coin will be shinny new!!!! To darken I use a homemade darkener that I may market someday so Please don't ask what I use to Darken, Best of luck with this method, Hope ya have great success using it.

You should probably tell folks in the OP that you have a darkener that is your own recipe that you use to keep the coins from looking awful after the lemon juice. That way folks won't get strung out when they can't get results as fine as yours.

just my 2 cents worth unless a coin is very badly corroded and i cant see any detail i clean them with baby oil and a toothbrush....if i want a new looking coin i will buy one,but to each his own...
Also it should be mentioned that one type of cleaning will not work the same on different metal compositions of the coins.....the cleaning method mentioned here worked on copper but the nickle got eaten up,so be carefull......

I posted that earlier this week! It was one that would NOT be cleaned by ANY method. Too far gone! Soooooo....I used a brillo pad on it, always wanted to, so I did. LOL

I clearly stated the method i used was on a 2 cent piece which is bronze and not copper or nickel!!!!! I also stated you could ruin your coin trying this method!!!! The most important thing to remember before cleaning is to use common sense!!!!!

No offense intended and none taken.

I seriously doubt lemon juice could have done that to my nickel in the amount of time since you originally posted. LOL

Just a bit of pullage of the leg. No harm no foul AND....I fully intend to try your technique on a few good candidate coins I have. I know all too well that it's all about recognizing the corrosion and the coins that MIGHT lend itself to cleaning.

I wasn't kidding about your 2 center though. A very nice job on a very nice coin!
