Cleaning indian head pennies?

Do not want to ruin these indian head pennies I detected. But what can I use to clean them to get more detail off of them? What should I do to clean them?

It is not the best way probably because it will still leave some residue (better to under-clean), but I do nothing more then to clean with alcohol gently with a q-tip and then soak in olive oil for about a week. Then I go back over it with another q-tip, but leave it a little wet. Sometimes I will do this twice. At the most, I will soak my copper coins in white vinegar for a SHORT while and then go over them with a q-tip. Other ways I have tried will eat them up. If you soak in vinegar too long it will eat at the copper.

Can olive oil cause the coin to become better and can it also work on wheats?
