That cleaning made such an amazing difference. I will have to try that technique on a button. Very nice presentation.

That is such an amazing difference. What kind of brightener? Where would you find it? I've used Aluminium jelly but never heard about the other.

It's not too readily available around my neck of the woods either. Online is your best bet. It's about 8 bucks on Amazon.

Very Nice!
I did one of my Staff GS Buttons a Couple years ago but used Naval Jelly 'Just looked at the bottle & it looks just like the Aluminum Jelly Bottle except it says "Naval Jelly .Rust Dissolver" Never tried it on a rusty piece tho.

Worked good on the button , I would have waited for the Aluminum Jelly if I was the OP (but it looks Good , Heck It might could use one more 30 second - 1 min ,Q-Tip rub on the remaining Green spots) . BUT???

P.S. Is that Button you Cleaned a 1800's Post War Button?
Either way it look's GREAT.

Oh yes, I know Fort Oglethorpe ( not very well) So close but so far away. lol
Still some Great history on that button & Since You know where it came from IMO Way Better than a Reg, GS Button.
Note ..Would love to find a Guilt ed GS CW Button......If they made them ??? , I think some firm did, But not super Sure. ???

Also Would you Stay Away from Naval Jelly & Stick With the Aluminum Type?

Buckle boy had a post on here about button preservation and I learned what I know from him. Naval jelly is very harsh and ok for iron. Aluminum jelly by loctite does a great job and is gentle.. Just do a little at a time with q tips after cleaning with tooth pick. Do a little then swap with water and repeat. You will know when to stop. I have some buttons I dug the other day and will do a post on here of before and after. Some were GS large coat buttons but after the civil war. I am thinking maybe war world I and one CW infantry I button.

Lactate :laughing7: Think I would have figured it out, lol but some people ???

Thanks for the reply .
I used the Naval on a Iron back Kepi Staff officer Button I dug a couple years ago , I used the 'Exact' method BB & You describe, but left the jelly on for maybe 10 seconds at a time.
It did work Fast & Well & I did know for sure when I was Finished.

Can not wait to see your button's when your finished with them .

I got some pic's to post my self ASAP , Need my wife to help , i'm so pitiful :BangHead:
Thanks again
Davers:thumbsup:
