A electrolysis question.

Please forgive my "no tech talk " .

Yesterday at Habour Freight I saw a small battery charger (for your Car , ATV etc, ) Sorry I can not recall the volts /amp's , 'not a whole lot' .

I was wondering if I could use this for small electrolysis issues (mostly small /med Iron Buckles & horse tack from Civil war sites.)

Anybody know about this product & if it's safe for simple job's.

Thanks is just so simple and has the alligator clips already on it.

Davers, I wish I could be of some help here, but I know someone will chime in that knows more. Let me know what you find out. I've never set up an electrolysis station myself. Good luck to you

I use a small charger works good . And I've used chargers from old phones

The HF 29.99 charger won't work because it is a auto off charger. When you make the connection the charger goes to off automatically.

For small stuff I use a former CD player power adapter.
I may be wrong but I prefer a low and slow approach. Though it is not really that slow on small items that are not in real bad shape to start with.

Only I use "wash soda" instead of salt.
Follow caution regarding ventilation. I do it outside just to be sure.
All my stuff ,including a baggie of wash soda fit in a plastic coffee can for storage.
A chopstick and spring type clothspin()s to hold it in place across the top.
A copper electrical clamp on one wire (to spoon as an anode). And an alligator clamp to coin. Or just wire on a small relic instead of the alligator clamp.
Anode on one side of container. Object being "cleaned" on the other.

If you look up Folgers can electrolysis on T-Net here (or maybe coffee can electrolysis) there is a members set up he made that is just a little more complicated.
