here's what I found....
"This is the location of an abandoned particle accelerator which was proposed in the 1940's (?) by the Air Force. There are rumors it WAS built and functional, then it was abandoned and filled with water to stop anyone from finding out what went on there...Whole facility was underground...I would think they were doing nuclear testing during the war...Trying to come up with new elements to use in bombs...Just my guess...If you look in the Adirondacks, there are at least 25 abandoned nuke silos...
