New in Raleigh looking for mentor

How do you go on a forum and ask people help you get started on something that most people keep secret?

I have lived in Raleigh for 20 years I travel all over this part of the state in my job and Like to think I know the area.

I bought a Garrett 250 this weekend and don't know where or how to get started. I followed the suggestions in Garretts beginners book and walked the YMCA socker fields yesterday morning and found 2 new quarters and a dime. Not much payback for 2 hours time.

I'm feeling a little discouraged and want to be more motivated.

I was thinking about going to the milbrook echange dog park but then decided I'd probably step in poop. Plus those dog people are there 24/7.
