Your nicklel is not worth that much, a couple of dollars at best,but it would be worth far less if you clean it

Try white vinegar to clean it. Let it soak overnight. Since it's not a real valuable piece and if you're not planning on selling it, clean it up all pretty-like so you can enjoy it. Try not to buff/polish or rub it. Let the light acidity of the vinegar do the work. Rinse well w/cold water.
