After getting 97% copper from the pennies from one man's old time coin dump, I WAS able to get the nickels too. The quarters and dimes were sent off before I could claim them, but they had the nickels yet, as the bag was not quite full.
I filled it and then they again allowed me to buy it. Woohoo!
I found 136 total keepers. Not as many as I thought, but MOST were from the 1960s and 1970s. Still - I bet there were more from the 1940s in the bag than from the 1980s, and NONE from the 1990s or newer. Not one.
Anyway, with most being 1964 (There were over 200 of just that year!) I ended up with 136 from 1960 or earlier. (I keep the 1960, 1961, and 1962 PLain nickels too, since they have lower mintage numbers than many of the late 1950s coins). Out of those 136 keepers, EIGHT were from 1943 through 1945. No 1942's, but I was sure happy to see 8 silver nickels. Before this bag I had 103 pre-1960 nickels and 8 silver nickels YTD. Now I have 231 pre 1960 and 16 war nickels. Doubled both areas. Cool.
NIckels are a good diversion for me from the pennies I do. Halves still don't work here, so nickels help me keep humming along. And this bag was amazing. :-)
So that's how I did on the final bag from the old man's dumps. Same as the pennies - mostly 1960s and 1970s. (All copper for those years for the pennies, but many nickel keepers too)
Did you see the price of copper moving up too? A cent is worth 1.59 cents in copper value now. Soon I hope to be able to sell copper cents again, to start depleting the inventory I've been building. I have about $2,400 in cents in the garage. That's a lot of boxes of copper cents!! LOL
