Casino & coin show finds

The price of silver dropped nicely just in time for a coin show that hits Vegas about six times a year. Picked up a few Morgans and Peace dollars to further complete my 20th Century collection (non-gold, non-proof). Only about 50 or so coins to go!

Plus a trip to the casino was a must. $250 in halves produced a cupla 40%ers and about $200 in nickels got me war nickels #36 & #37 for the year (42-P, 43-P).

Two weeks vacation start for me on Monday and I'm gonna hit the slots hard just about every day.

I've never played a slot machine here in the U.S but used to play them in Europe. From what I understand the new slot machines spit out a ticket when you win? What's up with that? The thrill is listening to all that change fall into the tray when you win.
Are they convering to them like that out your way Immy?

Although the last time I was in Vegas was a couple years ago, even at that time the strip was already pretty well converted over to TITO and the only casinos with coins were downtown and some smaller ones off to the side.

If I remember correctly I think I found a Walker, Franklin, a few 90%, a few 40%, a silver quarter, a buffalo nickel or two, some war nickels, and quite a few pre-1960 Jeffersons. Not worth the airplane ticket out there by itself and the hotel was already paid for either way so I had fun. Though the staff at one casino was reading me and Immy (got together for an afternoon when I was there) a bit of riot act because we put money in and cashed out without playing and there was a nosy janitor nearby who apparently passed word up. Since I could them whispering about us from behind the next bank of slots, I confronted them, and they claimed some Nevada law...blah blah blah and were throwing a hissy fit about someone who had apparently done run through about $1000 the night before. Hmm...litttle did they realize that was probably me. ;D

By the way, Immy did they ever fix that coin counter that always counted more halves than you put in?

Oh yeah, they fixed it. It started undercounting for awhile before I abandoned it. Plus the bill ejector would sometimes only partially spit out the bills. I ripped a C-note once trying to gently take it out. I now bring halves to the cashiers themselves.

But as 2010 dawns, 50 cent machines are dwindling further. Down to 43 in the downtown area. The only Strip locale that had them - Slots-a-fun - just discontinued them.

Fitzgeralds - 20 machines
El Cortez - 10
Western - 8
Las Vegas Club - 3
Fremont - 2

Binions got hip to our methods GMan and went half-less shortly after our assault. *sigh*

So next time you come here Rich, head downtown for a bit of CRHing Vegas-style, but you better make it soon!
