A Blast From The Past - My First Halves Dream Box

I seriously did not think that this would happen to me.

I had a Dr Appt today, and as usual when I go to that medical center, I stopped by the tiny branch of my bank that is located inside of a grocery store to ask for halves. I usually get a few dollars worth there once or twice a month. This time only one teller had halves, and it was a full $10 roll. I asked her if there were any more in the vault and she replied no. The branch manager overheard her and told her that there ARE halves in the vault. She said there is a full box of halves behind some other boxes. She said that a lady customer had bought them from QVC, and ended up cashing them in unopened. She said they had been in the vault for 5 years and nobody had ever asked for a full box. I inquired if I could buy some, she said I would have to take the whole box. I said YES! She rummaged around in the vault for a while, then popped out with one of those small 2 layer X 25 roll $500 halves boxes. She insisted on cutting open the end of the box to make sure all the rolls were there. She handed me a roll to look at, and I see a mint state 1951 Ben ender! I tried to hide my excitement as best as I could as I carried the box to the car. I was so excited, I completely forgot to do my grocery shopping.

On the way home, I stopped by the hotel where I often use the broadband wifi, and I cut the tape she taped the box closed with. I pulled out the top 10 rolls on that end for a quick look at the enders. I see 3 rolls with Ben enders 1951/1954/1958, one roll with a 1952 George W. Carver/Booker T. Washington Commemorative ender, and one roll with a 1968 Ken ender. I put the rolls back in the box and drove home as quick as I dared. Once home, I paused long enough to type this before I start enjoying some silver half porn. This should be GOOD :headbang:

for a good record, if possible, you should make a spread sheet on if the roll had an ender(s), what the roll contained ex: 1964d, 1968d, 1967, 1945, 1981s clad proof in roll 1., in roll 2... you get the point. good luck on the box, hopefully pictures to come!

Sounds and looks good but I don't get the part about QVC. The lady bought circulated silver from QVC? And put them into rolls? They haven't sold bags of silver from QVC since probably 10 years ago when silver was $5.00/oz. They never came in boxes.. it was all in bags.

Searching done. There were no more silver enders beyond the first 10 rolls, but there was a good amount of silver. The amount of silver tapered off as I worked my way down through the box. Here is the list of the finds, will upload pics sometime tomorrow.
-------------
12 Bens
1 X 1950D
1 X 1951
1 X 1951D
1 X 1952
1 X 1952D
2 X 1954
1 X 1954D
1 X 1957D
2 X 1958D
1 X 1959
-------------
1 X 1952 Commemorative Half
-------------
90% Kens
3 X 1964
-------------
40% Kens
3 X 1965 1 holed
3 X 1966
7 X 1967
1 X 1968D
4 X 1969D
-------------

No WLs found. The total was 16 90% and 18 40% silvers in this box :hello2:

There were literally hundreds of mint state clad halves in this box, so many that I cherry-picked only 2 rolls of them and had to reluctantly put the rest back in the rolls to dump.

While I am extremely happy with this silver harvest, I'm surely going to hate going back to the normal halves boxes again.

Edit: Added the pics, plus a couple of pics of a gold plated bic that was in the box.

Dunno, she said the lady told her that she bought them from QVC. This was a sealed $500 halves box, sealed until the branch manager cut it open to make sure it was completely full. The newest coins in the box were dated 1999, so the rolls may have been rolled prior to the 2000 halves being circulated much.

Nice score. Judging from the dates you listed, it looks like you got someone's old collection that got turned into a bank and then re-rolled into the box that you got. Nice going. It's out there! You just have to be lucky or first in line!
Congratulations,

Thank you. I agree with the collection, lots of mostly sequential dates with both P and D mints in the Bens. Most of those Bens are fairly high quality condition coinage as well.
