Finally got through my weeks boxes I picked up on Friday and have no complaints at all. Halves box #3 was a winner, wish every box was like that. While going through my dimes I was thinking about how many boxes I might have to go through before I found a Merc. I've done over a dozen boxes and still haven't found one...until today! Half way through my last box she showed up. That's what I love about this hobby, you just never know what your gonna get.

Nice finds on the Merc and Walker! Oh-oh, Mercury was not a lady. He was the messenger god, and god of trade in Roman mythology. The son of Jupiter. I like to think of her as a winged warrior, or Miss Liberty.

No problem Diver Down. Hope these come out alright.

Fistfulladirt...I believe you are correct, the correct term is "winged liberty".

Nice ladies. The "Mercury" is the nice with full bands. And you are right, it was properly known as Winged Liberty (who is always a lady). The wings representing a "Freedom of Thought".

Liberty has had a variety of headgear over the years; the winged cap on the "mercury" dime, a native American headdress on the "Indian head" penny, spiked tiara on the Peace dollar and a fedora on the very rare Bogart 40¢ piece.

I got my first Merc a few weeks ago, and thought it would never happen. Finding it was totally unexpected. I told the wife today "I still can't believe we got a Merc!"
