I see that a number of people are saving the Canadian coins.

Did you know that the canadian coins are actually worth less then U.S.! Do to the exchange rate. It is getting closer but it was up to 60+% a while ago. That means that it took over $1.60 Can to equal 1 U.S. dollar.

In my region (Western NY) Canadian coins are common. Although not as common as they use to be when they were virtually equal in value. Most banks here will check out the rolls for Canadian coins. Can. are magnetic so its easy to run a magnet over them. They discount the Canadian coins. They usually do not discount the pennies if there are a few. I am sure they would if there were rolls of them.

I grew up with Can. coins in circulation and equal to U.S. coins. We spent them just the same.

In Detroit, Where I grew up, Canadian Coins were an everyday thing, until the Can. Values dropped. Then all the US businesses would give you Can., but wouldn't accept any. Most people I knew saved it to go to the Windsor Casino with, or pay for the Tunnel. Pennies, nobody cared about.

Actually the exchange rate is $1 US = 90 Cents Canadian give or take a cent depending on the day. It's been around that number for quite some time now.

Cheers,
