Ok, Bomber: First of all, Any-.50-minted-BEFORE-1965-IS-90% SILVER! Then, From-1965-to-1970,-They-are-all-40% Silver! Now-Comes-
the-hard-part. In-1976,-The-San-Francisco-Mint-put-out-40% Silver-.50! On-the-front,above-the Date,-is-a-small s! We-continue-on-to-
1992S! From-1992-to-2006,-ALL-S-Marked-.50-ARE-90%SILVER-PROOFS! Got-It? There are also some error coins, but I didn't want to make
it too difficult! Remember what I taught you! We may have a Snap Quiz at any time!!! ;) Just Kidding! Hope it helped!

Actually (more fun confusion!) not all proofs after 1992 are silver. There are both silver and regular clad proofs from those years.

Also, all 1987 halves were only sold in mint and proof sets, including the P&D mints.

Bomber,

A good website to check out that tells you many facts about all pre 2000 coins. Seems they have not updated the site since 2000.

www.coinfacts.com

They tell which are silver, how many were made...etc. Lists practically all coins minted by U.S. Up till 2000.

The website has certainly helped me out a ton.
