the worse kind of skunked

I just started coin roll hunting recently and I have started out here in my small town trying to buy out the local banks. So, today I finally found one that had some (after calling around) I went to pick them up and she went to the back room and hand counted me out $200 worth and put them in a plastic bag. I got home and started searching them and found nothing. But that's not the worse part.... I decided to count them since they were not rolled. Total $115. She shorted me $85. I called up there immediately and the teller had left for the day so they called her at home and talked to her and then told me to bring back the bag in the morning and they would make it right with me. I thought... Your dang right you are. :-\

Anyways, to all of the other newbies out there, have a good sense about what $100 and $200 and up, in halves looks like so you don't get totally ripped off by someone who doesn't know how much a 50 cent piece is worth.
By the way my first time I did this was a few weeks ago my bank had $77.50 in their coin counter and I found 3 40%. Thanks for all the great tips that I have gotten from all of your posts! ;D

Holy Cow, thats attempted robbery LOL.

Glad your getting it straightened out. Good to know that the bank
trusts you and doesnt say "sorry, nothing we can do".

Just think, she probably started with 200.00, but took out all the silver !@!@!

ROTFL, just kidding. However, there have been plenty of thieving bank teller lady stories
on here.. .counting out silver and setting it aside right in front of the person buying halves.

Good luck on your future hunts !!
Happy Searchin'

I'm amazed that the bank admitted they screwed up! At least you'll have that much more to search. Just goes to show you, always get 'em rolled if possible!

That happened once to me in the casino. I brought $200 to the cashier that I just drained from a machine (no silvers) and the jet sorter added it up to $188. I put up a fuss and they called one of the floor managers over. I explained that the machine was spitting coins out irregularly (it really was) and I was shorted. The guy went over to the machine in question, opened it up and gave me 24 half dollars from the till. I was amazed! That just never happens. I thanked him and assured I'd be a regular player there, well, searcher anyways!

Heck I was turning a box in I had searched through (nothing found) and the woman tried to tell me it was a $300 dollar box.

I said "You mean $500".

She said "No, 300"

I said "You better read the side of the box".

She wondered where her mind had gone, then gave me 500 bucks.

Gotta keep an eye out. Sometimes they spend so much time dealing with numbers it ruins their mental capacity, certainly by the end of the day/week.

I brought a $250 box of dimes to a bank once and they tried to give me $500 for it. If it hadn't been one of the banks that I use and visit all of the time I would've been tempted to not point out their mistake, haha, but I'm too honest.

Good way to be Brian. Then hopefully all clears up on those times you get robbed as Angie just did.

WOW what a robbery it is. I can understand it though. My wife is a teller, errrr was a teller. Now a load clerk... Durn no more free great finds on coinage. The stories she has told me about peps they trained and had to let go after a few days LOL.

One girl cashed one of those fake checks for 5K (This could be yours, non-negotiable written all over it). OMG. I think perhaps and so does my wife that was an inside outside job. The girl had seemed unhappy there and didn't skip a beat as they fired her. They couldn't quite prove anything else though. Although I am sure they are probably going after her in civil court. Banks aren't gonna lose a penny much less that without a fight.

Glad you had 3 keepers and very impressed the bank straightened it out.

Just thought I would update,

I went in the next morning and the same teller which shorted me the day before now had a bag of $85 waiting for me when I walked in, and yes I counted them. LOL

And for the record, there were no keepers.

I think I'm actually going to order a box this week though, that will be exciting.
Also, that same bank still has another $800 in loose halves, I haven't decided if I want those or not.

This reminds me of what happened to me several years ago at a drive-thru bank. I had cashed a check for $1200.00. I have a habit of counting my money above my steering wheel in plain sight of the teller so they can see that I'm not trying to cheat them. Well, that time my count came out to $1100.00. I alerted the teller and sent the money back and she recounted it and saw her $100.00 mistake. Had I driven off without counting it I would have lost $100.00.
