Initially I was excited thinking I found silver based on the rim...and then I got even more excited thinking I found a special commemorative coin based on the Washington, D.C. side...and then I was created by the COPY stamp on washingtons head! Bummer

Still a cool looking coin! Anybody have information on this thing? I couldn't find much online...

Actually, it is .999 fine silver with a clad base. In other words, it is silver plated.

Oh, well that's a shame. That's what I get for not reading closely. Still a low mintage private mint coin. It's rarer than a silver quarter, but that doesn't mean that it's worth as much as a silver quarter. Now that we have been enlightened that it is plated, well, it's probably not worth much, if anything, at all. Still a cool and rare find.

I've got two silver sided state quarters without the "copy." silver plated as well?

S-Mint or? Pictures? They did make silver proofs, but if it's not an S-mint, there's no way its a silver proof unless something crazy happened.

The Washington, DC design of the state quarter was released in '09 and features Duke Ellington on it. This is a Dan Carr designed coin for a company he worked for back before he branched out on his own.
