Education is more important than stares, if you keep saying it, they will start saying it, and if they start saying it, hopefully others will start saying it, and the word cent will once again fall into its popular use.

It was never very popular. It originated with the Anglo-Saxons who first settled in America, referring to the copper coins as "pennies," after the British coin that they used back home.
