Hey all,
Just completed a box of pennies I picked up on 12/16/06. Took a lot longer this time, as each and every penny received magnifying glass scrutiny to detect errors or type II's.
Here's the results -
Wheaties: 11 (1928 1941 1944D 1945D 1946 1950 1951D 1952D 1957Dx3)
Copper: (1959-1981): 605
Errors: 17 (1978D filled-in 'D', 1984 several delamination errors, several die cracks, one penny with numerous zinc eruptions thru the copper plating, one with a large blob of copper obscuring most of the 'N' in the word 'ONE' on the reverse of a 1987)
Foreign - 63 Canadian (including 1940 King George), and a 2002 2 Euro cent coin from Germany.
Type II's - none.

No time right now to post pics; I'll try to get them added to this post later.
Good luck and HH,
Bob

Ive found my wheat cents per box ratio to be about 6 per box. Seems kinda low. Ive gone through about 10 boxes of pennies. My earliest is a 1919 wheatie. I live in the south, seems like the coin roll hunting in the south is not as good as up north, but I havent CRHed in the north, just basing it on posts. gl ;)

Very thorough inspection, but tell me, how long does it take to carefully study 2,500 pennies for errors? I am just curious, I coin roll hunt as well, but rarely do I look for error coins.

Well, I'm not sure exactly how long it took, but I think it's safe to say that it was at least 12 hours, spread out over a number of weeknights and weekends.... and there was a 1 week trip out of state thrown in the middle. I admit that this is the longest I have spent on a box, but given what I found this time it makes me wonder what I missed with the other boxes that I went through much more quickly. Fortunately, I still have just about every penny I have gotten from the CU, so I still have the opportunity to go back through a little more slowly and see what treasures there might be just below the surface!
Was it worth it? I think so... I found some interesting things (see attached pics)
HH,
Bob
