1-8-07 stopped at credit union to pick up $1,000 for the next two boxes and asked teller if she had any "large dollar coins",
she says she has a handfull, I say I'll take all and she sells me 49 Ike dollars, 47 are 1776-1976, one 72, one 74. Should I keep any or just deposit them back in savings?

On the Ike dollars, there are two varieties of the 1976. And the in the ones from Philadelphia a little under 4% are Variety 1 with the Bold letters on the reverse. I don't know if that adds anything to the value, but it is the more difficult type to find. At this point I have found 29 - 1976 Ikes (mostly Denver) and I have only found 1 Variety 1. Denver is more common in Variety 1 (about 20% of the total minted).

Keep the Ikes. If you don't want them, give them to your cousins, nieces and nephews for their birthday. Kids would love them.

I give Ikes to my daughter when the tooth fairy comes.

Thanks for the tips, no kids to give to, so I'll call the coin shops next week and I'll post the results with my next boxes searched post. I'll keep asking the tellers for Ike's and halves. Now my wife wants to open more accounts at other banks and stop at small town banks to ask for coins.

Last year if I dropped a coin I wouldn't bother to pick it up, now retired I spend time at the park with a metal detector searching for cents, nickles and, oh boy, quarters!!! Coin Roll Hunting is cleaner, easier and more rewarding than MDing.
