new finds for 1/19/07, I mean 14 sorry!

Out of 12 rolls of nickels I got 1 1939,2 60 ,1 40 1-54 1 43s! 1 42.i know this is crazy.I know only 42-45 are silver,why do the 50s and earlier seem like silver?Also I'm trying to get halves and the banks (commerce,roslyn)say we dont have any,I ask in the vault they say no.Or we dont give them out as change so we dont get them or order them either.Is this a consiracy to no give em out to prevent roll hunting?Maybe the banks are catching on.One last question,when people ask "Why do you need all these coins?" and things like that? I dont want to give too much info,you know keep em in the dark.I dont know if too many people here do it.dont want to spoil it.thanks

You can tell them you collect coins or that you play poker with them. I myself just be honest with them, there are alot of us CRHers out there and if the bank person has been in banking for a time they already know what most people are wanting when they ask. On getting halves, banks are charged for getting boxes of coins and they will only order what they need and use. Most will order halves for THEIR customers without a charge. The trick is getting rid of the coins after you have gone through them, I sujest not taking them back to the place you get them from

Thanks for the info Ray! I will ask my bank on tuesday.(I just got into this a few days ago) to see if they can order me one.the other banks I mentioned are open later and on days that my bank isnt.When you bring them back do you bring them loose or rolled?I wonder if the coin counter at commerce bank can handle halves.Any how I appreciate the help. I usually just get halves, when they ask what i want them for I have said to play poker or if i get $500 or more I say I am superstitious (SP?) and when I go to the casinos I play the 50 cent machines and I always do better when I bring my own coins. Be kinda surprized at the number of tellers that will start up a conversation about the casinos.

If they will order some for you one thing you might want to think about is they may not want them back. A lot of banks will order them but also tell you "dont bring them back here". The bank I am with did not even want me taking them back to another of their branches. So if that is the case, you might want to open another account at a different bank to take the halves to. Mostly when I do that I will roll them up.

Went to the bank today,only one half roll from 2003.this stinks.Then the tellers say they may not be able to order me a case(I really only wanted half which they couldnt do)some one else before ruined it by returning the cases to them.I'm totally bummed out.Its like here in N.Y. theyre against halfs or something.At two banks when i asked for halfs they say we dont keep them we ship them right out,or we dont have any.Sorry I'm just venting.What a way to start off my coin hunting career.I'm getting out the phonebook and making some calls.
