First Magician's Half

Found a hollow half in a box today. My first. This weekend marked my 1 year CRH'ing anniversary and I don't have firsts all that often anymore. I've tried rattling it around in a cup and tried bouncing it off the counter top. Any other thoughts on how to open it? Maybe I just need to bounce it harder...

Congrats on your first MH. I haven't gotten around to opening the last one I found either. I've heard others say that shaking it in a glass jar is a good way of opening them.

Don't use glass. Use a thick plastic tumbler or something similar. Sometimes you have to shake HARD and you can actually break glass.

I have heard that freezing the coin can help. Never tried that myself.

Of the 10 or so I've found, there is one I cannot open. I assume its super-glued or something.

I increased the 'ole velocity and got it to open. The inside of the reverse is made to look like a mexican coin. I'm very pleased with the find. The obverse is a very worn casino coin.

All I have ever seen on the inside are British pennies and Mexican 20 centavo pieces. I assume they are the perfect size to fit inside the half to make the trick coin for the ol' "Scotch and Soda" trick.

A good way to open magician's coins is to use a non-round bottle when you shake them. I use one of my wife's hexagonal shaped glass flower holders (didn't want to say 'vase'), and the angles in the glass make opening the coin much easier.

You need to put it in a faraday cage incase it's transmitting any GPS signals. If you get it open and find a GPS, put the GPS somewhere else.

Those are fun and sell well on ebay. I have only found 4 in the last several years. Sold a 1964 trick coin for $39.00 (best I can recall) a few months back. A non-silver trick coin for around $20.
There are many ways to make a few extra $$$ CRH along with the general stacking (my preferred method).

Crazy these things are found a little more often than I thought. I found one of the 1972 halves that comes apart with the British cent or whatever it is inside, then yesterday I found a double obverse nickel. I didn't realize this what somewhat common place. Congrats on your find!
