Eisenhower Dollar 1971-D on SILVER?!?

Found this on a tellers tray while picking up some CWR. Went to a jeweler and confirmed its part silver. Weird.

i've thrown a good number of Ike Rolls in my life and you can bet your life on it that this coin in question was at one time at the end of a thrown ike roll.

Swing and a miss. XRF confirmed it's plated. 22.55g on the scale. I did find this on another tellers tray. 1972-d no FG? Gotta go get em checked out. I'll keep looking for em.......

Its kind of hard to tell by not seeing the coin in person, but in the second reverse picture, I think I might see a trace of the FG, but you'd be able to ultimately tell. A no FG has to have absolutely no trace of the initials, I know I've gotten some "Very weak FG" halves that I've tossed back. I always look for the 72D no FG also. The only way to absoloutely tell is a specific gravity test, I would not trust XRF, sometimes people buy those machines used etc latest software not installed or whatever, but I will tell you this I had a guy test some rings for me he said all plated gold nothing real, went to a guy that just got the latest and confirmed gold, so I of course sold to him. 40% will weigh 24.592 grams +/- 4% it does not look wore enough to render weight on clad at 22.69 grams. also it is only 21% silver innercore, I don't know what XRF readings he was getting but he may not understand the readings he was seeing. check weight, if still unsure sound test it, if still unsure do a specific gravity if you have the capabilities, you can not tell by color alone. There was errors of 71-D on silver and also 77-D on silver certified by ngc or pcgs should get you 5k+ depending on grade, good luck!!!

There's a 72' D no FG, crap....you learn something new everyday. Guess I have to start looking for those too. I need to go get a book. You start looking for silver and you slowly learn about other stuff to look for.

The '72D no FG is the key date I believe but there are other dates that are keepers too. I found a '82P no FG last week myself and I know that date is listed in the cherry pickers guide book (Im guessing for maybe around $10 or so in its condition) but Im not sure about all the dates. But I would save any date in decent condition that doesn't have an FG. As far as I know, all no FG date half dollar coins are rare (or at least very scarce) coins. And just because it hasn't been officially declared by collectivist expert opinion in some coin book to have any collectable value doesn't and shouldn't mean it cant have at least some collectable value to some collectors - sold auctions on ebay probably prove that every day. I think of books like the cherry pickers guide book as an interesting informative coin guide book, but not as a rule book.
