Found the whole herd! - Crazy nickel score, plus a couple of halves...

So I spent Thursday cruising around looking for halves. When I do this I generally will pick up pennies, nickels and dimes at each stop as well. My normal plan is $8 in pennies, $32 in nickels and $60 in dimes at every stop. Well Thursday I completed this routine 8 different times leaving me with $64 cents, $256 nickels and $480 dimes. Every single roll, except for 1 stop's worth of nickels ($32) were MWR. I didn't have a chance to hunt them until today. On Friday I picked up 4 boxes of halves and found an '86-S Statue of Liberty reverse ender, our 5th commemorative, 3 statue of liberty half and first commemorative ender. Found a total of 4 40%ers, a '64 and a '59 Franklin that is MS60+, a real smoker.

The $64 in cents yielded 25 wheats including a very nice '26, '35-D, but nothing too great.

The $480 in dimes yielded a BU '64-D.

The $224 in MWR nickels yielded a '43-S, '38, '50 and '51. Not great, but not too great either. I made a comment to the wife during the nickel hunt that it's weird we just don't seem to find buffalo's anymore.

I dumped out the first of the CWR's and my jaw dropped. In the roll there were 12 buffalo's (misc dates), 4 V nickels (1890, 1898, 1900, 1909), 3 Canadian nickels (1936, 1960, 1982), a 1939-S, 2 1950's and then 18 modern nickels including 2 2013's. I was in shock. I've only found 15 buffalo's in my life and never a V nickel. Grabbed the next CWR and checked the ends and sure enough buffalo on one end and old Jeff on the other. All 16 of the rolls appear to from the same customer. Most buffalo's in a roll was 23. In total found 172 buffalo's, only 19 of which didn't have dates.

Highlights include
4 V nickels
1936 Canadian (9 other Canadian's include 2x40's and a '64 proofish, and an '84 Bermuda nickel).
10 x teen Buffalo's (1914, 1916, 1917, 1919)
1923-S Buffalo
1931-S (VG+)
22 x 1938 Jeff's
1938-D Jeff
1938-S
3 x 1939-S
18 x 1942-D
2 x 1946-S
1948-S
6 x 1949-S
16 x 1950
13 x 1951-S
9 x 1953-S
12 x 1955

I haven't really sifted through all the dates yet but basically I found every non-silver Jeff except '50-D and '39-D. Obviously I'm stoked about the find, but I know that I left a ton of other good rolls there. Unfortunately I don't know exactly where I got these other than it's ~150 miles away. Usually I quick check all the CWR before I leave to figure out if I need to go back in and get more. For some reason, probably because everything was MWR, I didn't quick check the nickels.... So maybe I got exactly all of them or maybe I left an even bigger score for someone else.

The word 'epic' get thrown around pretty loosely but this was pretty huge for me. I can't imagine I'll ever find a greater nickels score. Enjoy the pic's.

Holy cow, what a score!! I can't imagine the excitement you must have had going through those rolls. Too bad you couldn't retrace your steps. Some great semi-key dates there too. Epic!

Wow, incredible nickel score - with so many better dates - esp the '31S, '23S and all the teen date buffalos. Plus four V's and all those better, semi key date Jeffersons also. And that '59 Ben is a real beauty too. And I like your strategy of getting $100 worth in different denominations in addition to halves. It sure paid off for you big this time. Congrats on all the great finds!

Just fantastic!! Those are some great coins there! Got to love those CWR! As others stated, hope you can get back to that bank and buy ALL the CWR they have. Great finds!

Thanks everyone. I also found a total of 85 prewar Jeff's and 280 nickels from '46-'59.

I actually did get a total of 4 CWR of dimes as well, there was no silver but every coin in the 4 rolls was between '65 and '81. Didn't notice that until today.
