Non-bank options... Thoughts please

So long story short, I got to wondering about other sources for coins to "hunt" through. The one I'm most interested in is fountains, though I'm having a hard time getting my foot in the door for that one. Another one is coin op stuff - I'm currently lucky enough to be the person responsible for the coin-op showers at the park, so I get to go through ~$20-$100 in quarters every two weeks. I've been thinking about asking at a laundromat or something, but I just haven't worked up the courage yet.

My next thought was "where do a TON of people go, spend every coin they have, and be stupid/naive enough to spend the old/silver ones?" As I was thinking that, I drove past Wal-Mart. Having worked there as a cashier years back, I know they take in a fair amount of change - I'm just not sure that more is taken in that sent out. Has anyone ever tried asking any type of retail store to buy their change? I know my wife and I have bought rolls of quarters from Wal-Mart to do our laundry, but we always got the bank rolls, not the customer change.

And while I realize this is something not everyone may be willing to share, but are there other non-bank options anyone has had some luck with?

Get in touch with car wash owners and ask if you can look thru their change. Find out when they empty and be friendly.

The casinos around here do give half dollars if you get a black jack with a multiple of $5.00 bet. It pays 1.5
However, the casino will not take coins or payout in coins.

The ones near where I used to live have coin counters on the floor for people to cash in their change. It takes forever for the half bag to fill but every half bag I have bought from the coin counter at the casino has produced. My other favorite is dime bags from these machines at the casinos, got my first Barber dime that way.

My buddies dad just passed away. He had a business in El Paso dealing with laundry machines. I dont know much but I know they went through the money before deposits. My buddy went through 21,000$ in quarters and only found one silver quarter. They do large amounts of money like this all week. Quarters are a tough nut to crack so good luck if you find a place willing to let you do that. I found 2 silvers in one box and retired from the quarter game after that.

My bank ordered 2 boxes of quarters instead of halves one week, and I took them anyway, 2 boxes-1 silver quarter, retired as well lol, but at the same time ive gone thru more boxes of halves that haven't produced as well as 1 silver, let alone 90%, but they circulate wayyy to much for there to be good odds.

although you would think by this point there is enough crhers out there to circulate the "under circulated" halve dollar

Offer to color up the change at retirement communities, a lot of them can't leave the grounds or it is a hassle, don't take any cut just do it to help them out, while you get to look through the change at home. Also may want to try arcades in the mall, kids are known to have sticky fingers and may just plug that change into machines at the local arcade.
