Help me out. What's special about a 2009-D dime ? BU rolls fresh from the mint are selling for about $12 which is just a tad more than a roll of 08-D or any other recent issues. .

Nothing major, I just snag the few I find in the hopes that my kids or grandkids will be excited to find them in my collection

Lowest mintage that year since about 40 years earlier. So many people were dumping coins due to the great recession that less were needed to be minted for circulation.

1) Congrats on the Merc, they always bring a smile to my face!
2) Silver FDRs don't have added value beyond their melt value unless they are at least EF-40. Therefore keeping them in a glass jar, plastic bag or tube is just a good as flip and cheaper.
3) There never has been a premium on coins from a "relative" low mintage year only absolute low mintage. 40 million does not qualify as low mintage. There are simply too many of them around.
Example; 1950 nickel, mintage, 7 million, no premium, 1950D nickel 2.5 million yes premium)
4) If you want to set aside current coins that will have greater than face value in future, I would suggest unopened solid rolls (pennies, nickels, dimes etc) and of course error coins

Thanks for the tips

2) I figured the sleeve for the Rosie wasn't necessary, but I have a bunch and I figured it won't hurt anything.
3) I know they likely won't ever be worth much, I'm just thinking that maybe if I can keep some in good condition that might help. Time will tell.
4) Unfortunately at this point I'm not really "investing" at the moment - I figured a few dimes isn't much money, and there is a 0% I will ever loose anything on them since I paid face value.
