Decided to try some nickels after reading about a 2015-P die clash error which goes for $5-$10 each. Look at the line through the eyes. Not an optical illusion, it's a well documented error.

Found about 6 so far and 1/3 of the way through the batch....then on to the dimes...

The Second coin is really neat. Obverse has significant planchet errors, lamination issues and a strike through on the reverse. It looks like it was a very tiny tag of some sort that got in the machinery.

Opinions appreciated.

I'm having trouble with understanding what you are seeing. A strike through usually only happens to one coin, maybe two. It's when something falls into the strike chamber. It won't produce the same effect in the same spot over and over. Now a die dent would but again that is just damage. The second coin is just a damaged coin from circulation. No tag fell in and got struck. This was done by someone by hand after it left the mint.

On the 2015's the base of the memorial cuts across his eyes, and on one of the better examples I got today you can see an image of the eye on the rear of the coin. I'll post a picture of the back as soon as I can tonight.

So this was my first box of nickels, three pre 1950 nearly uncirculated, Six 2015 error coins, 1 struck through grease and a 1917 or 1927 Buffalo, I'll have to clean it some but there is a date there. Also one 1942-S Silver.

Okay that clears it up. I didn't see you mentioned clash in the original post. Five dollars for a minor clash? Hey if you can get that more power to you!

I saw them on Ebay for that. Not me selling. You can see Jeff's eye under the steps on the reverse here. jeffeye.jpg

Did you see any sold for that price or starting bid or bin? A coin is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

No, I can look. Not real important to me. I like the "chase", after the finding there is not as much interest here.

I have three boxes of new 2015 or 2016 nickels which I got from bank. I better check to see if there is any in there.

I used a 10 powered hastings triplet lens to spot them.

They aren't plentiful, btw. the 2015 "edge creep" reverse is hard too.
