Here's why you should check every coin. Almost missed a Mercury dime!

Opened 20 rolls of dimes yesterday and found one silver, a 1961 Rosie. Decided to check them for die cracks and errors today, since it's lousy outside. About 500 coins in, I spotted a really grungy 1942 Merc! The edge was black with no shine, so it blended in with a lot of the filthy rosies that were in these rolls.

This is my first Merc and I only had to search through 32,000 dimes to find one! LOL! Bottom line, check every dime!

Yup, I usually find tar, gum, tape, green corrosion and general crud on my dimes. Safe to say, I wash my hands after every dime search!

Congrats on your silver!

It really does pay to be thorough; I was going through a pile of "skunk" halves when I noticed one gleaming in the pile- turns out, it's a 2008 proof clad! Gotta love false skunks.
