Looks just like the coins that come out of a tumbler. Be thankful, you are not down by me. I don't even bother cleaning them. Sand concretion, shells adhering to the surface, stubborn dirt, it is all fine with me. I don't care if screws up Brinks/Loomis machines. Not my problem. If it fits in a roll, that is where my responsibility ends. It is up to the member institution to determine the fitness of the coin and currency. You should see the rotten zincolns that I send back. Even a partial bit of a cent gets rolled.
Yep, they look like tumbled quarters. I have seen that look when too much vinegar or lemon juice is added to the contents of a tumbler and left too long to tumble. When adding an acid to a tumbler the max you want to tumble is for 20 mins or less. Much longer and the coins come out looking like what you have there or worse. You should see what happens when that is done to pennies...not pleasant!
