Same error on 7 coins. Is this common?

I just picked up 5 dollars in pennies and cracked my first roll. Not sure what to think of this. 7 of the 50 pennies have the same die crack. Is this normal? I know die cracks are not worth much money but i was wondering if this may be an an exception. Maybe i could sell them all on ebay as a Lot?

Your thoughts are much appreciated!

I don't know about the value - but it is interesting. Long ago, when I attended ANA annual shows, there were poster sessions on the science of numismatics and I remember one showing the progression of a die crack - from barely perceptible when it started to massive cud and die break. I think it would be great if you can follow this die crack as it gets progressively bigger and see where it leads.

I still have 9 rolls to go thru. Who knows, maybe i will find more of the same. That is a very interesting concept. I do see some very slight differences between a few of them

you have a monster growing, hopefully you can watch as it matures .... then dies a catastrophic end.

I found a '94-P Zincoln with a median split die error-- the last step before the die cracks like a dodo bird egg. current bid on coin is $20 :happysmiley:

If your examples show the die crack progressing that adds additional cool factor to it. Nice save.

Outstanding pics, BTW. Do you have a camera on your microscope?

I do have a camera on my Microscope but these pics were taken with my Iphone and a small magnifier that clips over the phone lens. picked it up at cracker barrel for 2.50 in the clearance section. The Microscope does not show the depth like the phone pics do. Not sure if its lighting or what is going on.

BTW! i just cracked my second roll and i am now up to 14 pennies with the same error! 8 more rolls to go.

Here is a pic using the microscope

I just finished going thru the last 8 rolls. Grand total is 70 pennies posted on today's finds.

Any ideas on how to tell which is older than the other? They all look the same other than some being weaker and harder to see with the naked eye.

As the die is used more the crack will be easier to see, so the ones that are harder to see with the naked eye are likely the first ones and the ones that are easier to see are later examples as the die is slowly cracking more and more with each cent produced.

Those are nice. I purchased one of the "floating head" Lincolns for 2019. I also saw one of your type on Ebay last night.

I stopped by the bank yesterday and picked up more penny rolls. She had 8 dollars left from the same box so i took them all. I cracked open the first roll and pulled another 6 coins with the same error.
So, do i continue pulling or sit on the rest? I now have 76 of these coins and 15 unsearched rolls from the same lot.

at 760 pressed per minute- you have 10 seconds of production. how long before the die was replaced:dontknow:

law of supply & demand about to kick in :BangHead:

I think over time you can make some profit on these. However, they are cool, so either way, definitely save them. As many as you get.
Hey, if you get $1 per coin (Less than the current ebay price, but as you add more the price drops) that is $76 or over $75 profit. ANd if you keep them, youhave something no one on this board has shown before, so definitely a rarity. Great find! :-)
