do the magnet test.

if it sticks to the magnet then its made out of nickel. if it doesn't stick to a magnet then its made out of silver

hope its silver

nickel is one of the three metals that stick to magnets, you need to pay attention in chemistry ::)

You could always here the distinctive silver ring when dropped on the table. The nickel composition will sound completely different.

The third would be cobalt along with the alloys of all three.
Of course there is much more to it, but this is suffice for our CRHing purposes.

And anticipating the next question...

US nickels don't stick to magnets because they're only 25% nickel. Anything less than 80% nickel in an alloy is nonmagnetic.

But how much stronger? 65%? I didn't pay attention in my Physics class either.
