Found this one tonight. The mark on the front caught my eye so I took a quick scan with the 10X loupe. It appears to look like a drill hole that was filled on the front (but it isn't). I flipped over the half to see if it went all of the through but it didn't. While looking on the back I did notice however that there is a doubling of the words "OF AMERICA"

What do you all think?

Don't know about the circle, but the reverse appears to be mechanical doubling.

looks like a pin/rivet. very small machining work, but a easy way to fill a hole. the alloy is different.
I cant see why someone would do that unless they were just messing around, its interesting!

Take it to a good magic shop. It might be a steel insert so the coin will react to a magnet or something of the like.

Also check the weight on a highly accurate scale.

Halves are the most common coins machined or edited into magic props.

On mechanical doubling one or both of the dies are a little loose, causing the die to shift when they come together. Thus the doubling looks like a lower shelf that has spread from the design. This will also give you that mushy look on worn dies. Hope this helps.

Happy Hunting!
