Buy mint sets? lol What date range are you talking about? It seems to me it would be pretty time consuming and i have no idea a quick way to do it. I pull the oldies and move on lol. Hope someone has some ideas for you....

I just follow my nose!...where the silver and gold goes!

easy,
check for mint luster, if its older and shiny as heck, put it aside and look at it closer when your done.
Learn what dates are more valuable.
The steps on nickels are the first tings to go, so if there is any ware on the nickel. The steps are already gone
Do a box. its a lot easier to loop and check 3 to 10 coins than thousands.
The nickels that are nicer examples or perfect examples will stick out.

I found a 1962 FS nickle, and I spotted it like this. I check the year on every nickle, and when I saw this one said 1962, I thought, "Man, that is one shiney nickle for that age." Flipped it over, and sure enough, perfect steps! Basically, I would say just look for old coins that look new.

ok, cool. thanks for the advice.

I'll just check the ones that look really nice, which is what I've been doing anyway.
