There is no way that could happen at the mint.

Why would you be afraid to clean a coin that you don't even know for sure is a coin?

Don't clean it / never clean your coins
agree with the beard issue based on the single pic
also agree that the mint wouldn't reverse
can we see a close up?
at first glance it looks bogus

Here's a better look at it...I found this thing down in the sand on an old beach.

Flip it horizontally in photo-shop and it becomes this.

This coin came out of the ground facing left. It appears that there is a mold of some sort on top of the coin. I don't lie.

No such accusation was made. I merely flipped it in photo-shop and presented the result.

Mind taking another photo with a common penny next to the one you found, might help
with proper I.D., thanks.

EDIT: A pic of the reverse may help as well. Is your coin thicker/thinner than a normal
Lincoln cent?

Your best bet would be to take the coin to an actual coin shop and let an expert look at it personally. It can be very difficult to see important details from a picture. Let us know what you find out.

If this does turn out to be a mint error it has got to be one of the coolest ones I have ever seen. With the detail on it I don't see how it could have happened anywhere but at the mint unless it was purposely done this way as a novelty coin. I can't wait to see how this turns out.

The only way it could have happened at the mint is if someone hand engraved a die backwards. I seriously doubt that would happen.
