Some Finds For $13.00

I went looking today for antique bottles for my ever growing bottle collection. I hit some antique shops and flea markets and had no luck finding anything new to bring home. I did run across these three coins for $13.00. I have some colonial coppers and thought they would fit in with my 1700's collection. The description on the price tag said that these were spanish and silver. Thats all I know about them. What are these coins called ? Are they silver?
Are they worth $13.00?

They look good to me, but what do I know?

Hey Undertaker those are reales. So they are spanish and silver if they are real, and they look like they are. Looks like the big one is an 8 reale, the miidle one looks like a 2 reale and the last one a 1. I could be wrong but thats what they look like to me. A good deal for 13 bucks. Congrats

the 8R ( 1797 -- 8 reale is a mexico mint -- M with tiny o mint mark with F and M as the mint inspectors (assayers) ($20) ---- ( 1781-- mintmark is (bogota , columbia)--rare* ( N R) value is 1 R ( 1 reale) and J-J are the assayers ) ($90) --- the 1784 is a 1/2 real (R only) -- ME (peru) mint mark --with M and I as the assayers ($10)--- the e in reale is only used if above 1 in value .

if real they are spanish they are about 90% silver and a very good buy at $13 since the lowest book value in G grade is $120 bucks --warning "made in china" fakes are commonly found at flea markets --they look very real but often their magnetic (silver is not) or the weight is way off what a real one should be ( being their not made of the correct metal)

Thanks for the great information. I did check to see if they were magnetic and they are not. Although I have no weigh scales they feel right for silver coins. I didn't realize that they made copys of these types of coins but I did see a copy of the 1797 8R on Ebay. I think I got lucky when the dealer either didn't no what the values were or mismarked them by leaving a zero off the price. Were these coins ever in circulation during the colonial times, along with fugio's, nova constellatio's and other colonial coppers?
