It appears similar to "Melkart-Herakles" in the part of ancient Phoenicia that is now encompassed by Lebanon. Around 126BC-57AD.
Just a WAG based on the reverse image...

It was purchased long ago by a friends uncle...told him I'd try to find out more about the coin. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the replies...I have a book on acient Roman/Greek coins and many of the posted pix are similar...Anyone want to take a stab at this coin? The measurements are the same...about 29mm...
