I am new to detecting and I think I just found my oldest coin. Unfortunately it is very toasty. It is green with brown underneath (I'm guessing copper?). It seems to have a wreath on the back with a large D in the wreath. It has writing on the outside of the wreath. I cant make out the words. I took several pictures but my camera isn't up to the task. It is smaller than a quarter but larger than a nickel. If you have any guesses, I would appreciate some help.

Thanks in advance.

Gary S FL over in "what is it" suggested a 2 cent piece. I think he is correct. I am really excited as before this my oldest coin was a 1954 nickel. Thanks to everyone who gave this some thought and read my post.

Thanks for trying. I posted a picture in today's finds under "it takes a village".

Thanks again.
